Saturday November 12, the Almond Fire Department held a training session with their new Jaws-of-Life tools.  The tools are now in service and ready when the need arises to use them.  Below is a short clip of the spreader in use to lift a car quickly.  More photos of the training session are in our photo gallery.

Even though we stretch grants and tax dollars as far as we can, we still need to rely on the community’s support financially to be able to improve our equipment and serve our district better each year.

You are invited to our annual pork chop and chicken dinner and raffle scheduled for September 11, 2011 from 11:00 am to 2:00 pm at the Legion Hall on Division St in Almond.

Dinner prices which include baked potato, corn on the cob, cole slaw, baked beans and a desert are:

Pork Chop Dinner
$8.00
 1/2 Chicken Dinner
 $8.00
 1/4 Chicken Dinner
 $4.00

Raffle tickets are available from our firefighters, EMS, and local businesses and the day of the dinner as well.

With the help of a $6000.00 donation from Wilbur-Ellis Company and the community's generous support, we hope to complete our four year goal of having our full set of new Jaws of Life in two years! The cost of this project will actually be between $18,000 and $20,000.  We have committed to the purchase of the basic setup (pump, cutters and spreaders) with the money we currently have and hope to raise enough this year to complete the set of tools we need to provide a full range of rescue capability.

Nine Teams Compete in Water Wars at the 2009 Tater Toot PDF Print E-mail

Monday, 27 July 2009 16:07

Saturday July 25th brought a great parade, followed by a brief shower and then water wars with nine teams representing six area fire departments.

Teams from Almond (2), Plover (2), Hancock (2), Iola, Bancroft, and Sherry competed in the 2009 Almond Tater Toot Wars.  You can find pictures of the event in our Photo Gallery.

In the end, Almond-Team 1 took first place, Plover-Team 1 took second, and Hancock-Team 1 took third.  A good time was had by all competing and also the spectators at the event.  The brief showers that would roll through wasn't the only thing getting spectators wet, however.

Thanks to all the teams who traveled to compete.  Also, a big thank you to all those who volunteered and helped during the event.  As with any event, a lot of planning and folks to run the event are needed, and those that helped this year deserve a big thanks!

Hope to see you all next year!

July Meeting PDF Print E-mail
Written by Administrator
Wednesday, 08 July 2009 20:09

The July training consisted of pump training, drafting and hose/nozzle work.  Firefighters learned, practiced and honed their skills at running Engine 5's pump, as well as tested and utilized the new tank draft device to draft water from one dump tank to another.

The tank draft device allows for two dump tanks to be deployed at a fire scene, providing for more water at the scene.  This gives the pump operator(s) more flexibility in providing water at appropriate pressures when multiple hose lines and sizes of hose lines are in use.

Firefighters worked on nozzle skills and hose management while having some fun practicing water wars.

The July meeting followed training.
